It is free to choose the job you like in Japan. Companies usually give an exam when recruiting talents. However, companies which are popular among people who are hunting for a job will enhance the standards of choosing talents. As a result, the competition can be rather intense.

A good thing is that when a person has passed all the exams including interviews, he will be able to do the job he likes. Schools and companies set April as the beginning of a term, generally speaking. But the recruiting exams are regularly held in fall of last year.

The beginning date of recruiting talents are negotiated between all the celebrated enterprises. In terms of companies, they of course are desired of competent people so that sometimes they will send people to persuade good students to join their company before the recruiting date arrives. This kind of activity is called “buy the young”. To explain the term in details, it means that companies made up their mind to recruit students before they can make sure that the students are able to graduate successfully.

In Japan, it is also free to change the job. Many people especially the young would like to shift to the company which can pay them higher or at least more suitable for them. Thus, many competent people will flow from companies. Meanwhile there are also people who are unwilling to be employed by companies. Therefore, they would open their own stores and become self-employed entrepreneurs.

In the past, when employed, people would like to stay in the same company till they retire from it. What the old generation pursuit is a steady life. However, the young generation can not accept the thought, they generally put the interest in the first place. They would leave the position which is not suitable to them even though they are highly paid in the company. From the fact, we can see how generation gap is produced to some extent.

Based on a recent survey, it is said that it becomes more and more difficult to get a job in Japan due to the past slump. Many young people at the age of twenty to thirty are worried to hunt for a job. In Tokyo, young people at the age of twenty to thirty have taken one third part of the strollers in the street. Because of no job, they can not find a place to live in and some people can not solve the problem of starvation.

Breaking into Hollywood – How do I get a job as a story analyst/script reader?

One of my first jobs in Los Angeles was as a story analyst at a major production company. If you’d love to spend long nights and weekends reading and analyzing the future hits (and not-so-much-a-hits) of Hollywood, here’s how you go after this fascinating, funny and frankly high burn-out entry-level gig.

THE JOBAs a story analyst, it is your job to read and summarize scripts then analyze them for structural soundness, story, dialogue, character development, creativity and more. That is called “generating coverage,” and you will do that for your creative executives (CEs) on fairly tight deadlines.

THE PROCESSWhen you apply for a job as a reader, you will be handed a sample script and asked to analyze it, using the company’s coverage template, in a set period of time, FOR FREE. The company’s development team will review your work to see if it meets their needs and may then hire you. Once you are hired, you usually work as a freelancer, being sent or picking up your “weekend pile” of scripts when they contact you. There often are scripts to cover during the week, as well. You might read only a handful of scripts a week; at big companies, you might have to analyze twenty or more a week.

THE PAYOh, pay is sooooooo looooooow for readers! You almost always are paid on a per-script basis, anywhere from – a script, usually. Given the hours you invest, it’s not much money, but it’s great experience for both writers and aspiring development types.

HONING YOUR SKILLSBefore you go after a reading job, be sure you have a strong grasp of story structure! Take multiple classes, read multiple books, know industry terminology and expectations. That’s not just to help yourself get a job; it’s also to be fair to the writers whose scripts you are about to be responsible for vetting. As a story analyst, you are a gatekeeper for your production company, the first point of entry for screenwriters trying to get their work produced. That is a big responsibility. It is also great trench training for screenwriters who are interested in learning the buyer’s point of view of this business, as I discuss in detail in my book and seminars.

GETTING THE GIGNext it’s time for the job hunt. Craig’s List often has postings in the “Gigs” section of the Los Angeles region. Just do a general search for “reader” and for “story analyst.” Also, let your friends know you are looking for a story analyst gig, and put a cool gift into the mix for people who get you into the consideration pool!

Of course, reading jobs are notorious “insider” gigs, handed off from one analyst to the next, so the best way to get one of these jobs is through a contact. If you know someone who does coverage right now, ask if they can submit you for consideration as a reader for their company. If they get you in to do sample coverage, terrific – be sure to get them a gift, whether you’re hired or not.

But venturing off into the cruise ship career is a lot easier said than done. Here are some great strategies for how to get cruise ship jobs despite the fierce competition:

Appearance – Make sure your appearance is crisp and professional. Wear dress clothes to your interviews. Cruise lines want to make sure you will represent them well to passengers and won’t put them off. So your first impression, as with many other areas of life, is of course very important.

Skillset – If you have experience in the hospitality, hotel, restaurant, or any other area requiring personal customer service, make sure you document your experience, and even better, achievements in your resume and cover letter. Though experience in these industries is not necessary, it will tip the odds in your favor among the competition.
